Transformer designed to utilize small wasted energies

#3 Ventilator - Resistor - Bipolar switch

Sound performance / 2025

This performance is part of a broader body of research based on a text by Marcel Duchamp, “Transformer designed to utilize small wasted energies,” in which the recycling of bodily excess into sonic energy is explored. Through unlikely body–machine assemblages, the work seeks to present a gallery of living and loudspeaking ready-mades operating with a low energy efficiency.

Transformer designed to utilize small wasted energies

#2 Ventilator

Sound performance / 2024

Ventilator: A device driven by a swirling, obsessive energy, designed to release and disperse into the surrounding atmosphere flows of excess particles within the body of the apparatus. In a closed environment, the outgoing air masses are cyclically re-injected into the ventilation intake before being expelled again. The concentration of energetic particles suspended in the air thus gradually increases. When the saturation threshold is reached, a phenomenon of hyperventilation generates zones of atmospheric pressure and low pressure, whose random movements locally lead to the emergence of microclimates.

Concrétions

Electroacoustic soundwork / 2024

“Concretions” is the third movement of the electroacoustic piece “Les eaux s'accordent”, a five-movement symphony composed by five composers: Sarah Clénet, Christine Groult, Camille Lacroix, Aude Rabillon, and Anne-Laure Lejosne.

This work was commissioned by CNCM Athénor for the Festival de l’Eau, held in Saint-Nazaire in May 2024.
This group of composers was invited to explore the waters of the Saint-Nazaire region, from the marshlands of Brière to the coastline, via the Loire estuary.

“Concretions,” a movement composed from sounds recorded along the Atlantic coast, presents a soundscape eroded by gusts and surges of white noise. It evokes passages, tidal flows and ebbing currents that slowly and continuously reshape this shifting edge of the coastline, threatened with dissolution.

Stereo piece, 10 minutes
Commissioned by Athénor – CNCM
Premiere at the Festival de l’Eau 2024
This work was supported by a grant for the creation of an original musical work from the French Ministry of Culture – Prefect of the Pays de la Loire Region.

18 mai 2024 : Festival de l'Eau, St Nazaire

Transformer designed to utilize small wasted energies

#1 Voltage Generator

Sound performance / 2023

Voltage Generator: A dipole capable of imposing tensions, through plantar stimulation, across the terminals of a bipod. The massive influx of negative charges through reflex zones inhibits energetic circulation by saturating the meridians, resulting in a lasting disruption of homeostatic mechanisms. The generated tensions are reinterpreted as liminal, quasi-subliminal yet persistent sound forms. The listener’s psychic resistance is thus put to the test through a subtly abusive form of acoustic pressure.

DUST (d'autres unités sémiotiques temporelles)

Booklet / 2022

A booklet accompanying the electroacoustic piece “Transformer designed to Utilize Small Wasted Energies.” It constitutes an improbable addendum to the research conducted by the MIM in Marseille on “temporal semiotic units” (UST).

The booklet, entitled DUST (d’autres unités sémiotiques temporelles / “other temporal semiotic units”), offers a morphological and semantic analysis, along with a graphic representation of each of the “wasted energies” described in Duchamp’s text. The publication is accompanied by a disc gathering the 19 corresponding sound miniatures.
